CHINESE PHARMA COMPANIES MANUFACTURE MUCH OF THE WORLD’S ANTIBIOTICS, ANALGESICS, ENZYMES AND PRIMARY AMINO ACIDS

Posted in Health Watch, News Brief on June 2nd, 2007

SHOULD THIS HAVE US CONCERNED?

299474929840.jpgThe combination of Corporate America’s passion for cheap raw ingredients and the People’s Republic of China’s less than effective quality control mechanisms could be about to bite the unsuspecting American consumer once again with the news that much of vitamins, antibiotics and pain relievers on store shelves here in the US are either manufactured in or composited from ingredients formulated in China.

Specifically, Chinese pharmaceutical companies now manufacturer 70 percent of the world’s penicillin, 50 percent of its aspirin and 35 percent of its acetaminophen, as well as the bulk of the world market in the production of analgesics, enzymes, amino acids, and vitamins A, B12, C and E.

According to Tim Johnson of McClatchy Newspapers, If you pop a vitamin C tablet in your mouth, it’s a good bet it came from China as
Chinese pharmaceutical companies now manufacture 90 percent of the U.S. market for vitamin C.

Tim’s report follows the jump.
