PANEL TO ISSUE REPORT OUTLINING THE NUMEROUS DISASTER SCENARIOS, INCLUDING MORE HEATWAVES, MELTING GLACIERS AND RISING SEAS

coalplant1.jpgMore frequent heat waves, melting glaciers and rising seas are just a few of the scenarios that await us if we do not immediately make huge cuts in the amount of greenhouse gasses being released in to the atmosphere, according to a new report to be issued by the UN climate panel when the panel meets next week in Valencia, Spain.

Condensed from over 3,000 pages of already published science, the panel’s 20-page summary for policy makers, unconditionally links the greenhouse gas emissions to the burning of fossil fuels, a point that till now has frequently been challenged by all manner of so-called experts, most of whom have happened to be in the employ, either directly or indirectly, of the world’s major energy companies.

“There is no reason to question the science any longer,” according to Achim Steiner, head of the U.N. Environment Program, who called for the nations of the world to act “in the collective interest of humanity. “Valencia”, he went on to say, “will add further momentum in the mind of the public around the world that governments … have no option but to move forward with tougher policies”.

Representatives of as many as 130 governments are scheduled to attend the confab.
